Religious Education

The goal of Religious Education Program at St. Andrew Catholic Church is to provide children with opportunities for ongoing spiritual development and catechesis. The Religious Education Program also prepares children for the Sacraments of Reconciliation, Eucharist and Confirmation.

Classes are held every Wednesday evening during the school year for public school children from Kindergarten through Eighth Grade. Two sessions are available. Religious Education is a vital part of continuing the legacy of our faith and no one is to be turned away for any reason.

Preparation for Reconciliation and Holy Eucharist

The kindergarten through fourth grade curriculum provides children with the preparation needed for the reception of the sacraments of Reconciliation and First Eucharist as well as the ongoing spiritual formation and catechesis they will need to continue to grow in the faith. In order to lay a foundation in basic Catholic principles, participation in weekly Religious Education classes is vital. Readiness, and not chronological age or school grade, determines a child’s preparedness for the sacraments.

Preparation for Confirmation

Baptism, the Eucharist, and the sacrament of Confirmation are the sacraments of Christian initiation into the Catholic Church. In fact, the sacrament of Confirmation is necessary for the completion of baptismal grace. For by the sacrament of Confirmation the baptized are bound more perfectly to the Church and are enriched with the gifts of the Holy Spirit. Therefore, Confirmation is a ratification and renewal of Baptism, freely and deliberately done and it is a continuation of a Catholic’s baptismal commitment.

In keeping with diocesan guidelines, St. Andrew Church implements a two-year program to prepare for Confirmation that begins in grade seven. All who are interested in receiving the sacrament of Confirmation are invited to begin a journey of faith to prepare for this sacrament. Such a journey requires a commitment on both the part of the parent and the Confirmation candidate.
